A Meditative State of Mind

 

I find that certain activities, no matter what, keep my mind focused and present. This feeling, this state of mind, is usually triggered by different activities for different people. When I’m dancing (especially to drums) or painting and sketching my mind doesn’t wander, my senses are completely drawn into what I am doing. Sometimes, however, it’s not so easy. That’s where yoga comes in. Yoga trains the body and mind to be in sync. This is helpful when we’re doing things where it’s not as effortless to keep the mind focused. While practicing yoga and moving through the asanas (poses) the mind needs to be focused on the alignment of the body, the way it feels, the sensations, and how the breath is moving into and out of the body. Consistent practice and engaging in meditative activities teaches us to bring this focus into our every day lives. What works for you?
